Tour Garden: JO ANN & DAN WHITE
KINDER PLACE GARDENS
home of the “YARD SALE QUEEN”
Kinder Place Gardens, an AHS Display Garden, is located just 15 minutes east of the St. Louis Arch and the Mississippi River. Daylilies, perennials, shade, woodland and waterside plants are displayed in 26 garden venues on three acres carved out of Civil War Captain Jacob Kinder’s homestead. A red barn built in the 1860’s is the focal point of the property. The garden is bordered by a lake to the south, woods to the west, horse farm and stables to the north, and the brick Italianate home built by Jacob Kinder to the east.
Dan and Jo Ann White have been antique collectors and dealers for over 30 years and have used many garden antiques, benches, bird baths, statues, iron gates and fence sections to accent their garden.
Primary daylily interest is in spiders and narrow and unusual forms; however, all daylily forms will be on display. Over 600 cultivars and 15,000 plus seedlings will provide a good variety of daylilies for all to enjoy.
A special display bed will feature cultivars of 13 Greater St Louis Daylily Society hybridizer.
Dan has been a backyard hybridizer since 2001, working primarily with narrow and unusual forms. He has registered only six prior to 2010. He named his first registration YARD SALE QUEEN in honor of Jo Ann‘s passion for yard sales.
